Please note that the following guidelines are for students applying for pre-college student visa in order to study with the aim of entering to the higher educational institutions in Japan. For students apply for short term intensive courses, please refer to the link “The Courses”.

How to proceed with your application step by step
Submitting application

- An Interview between a representative from the school and the student with his/her financial guarantor is usually arranged whether in Japan or in the country of the applicant.

- Our representative explains about the application procedure and documents and he/she helps the applicant to fill out and check the many necessary documents.

- The deadlines for sending the application and documents to our school is
November 15 for 2 years course (April Admissions)
February 15 for 21 months course (July Admission)
May 15 for 18 months course (May Admission)
January 15 for 15 month course (August Admission)
An application fee of 31.500 Yen is required.
Checking and acceptance of application

- Our school issues an entrance permit which will be sent to the applicant on the following schedules.
Around December 15 for April Admission
Around March 15 for July Admission
Around June 15 for October
Admission Around September 15 for January Admission

- The handling procedure at the Immigration Office usually takes about 3 months.
The Immigration Office sends resident permits to the school.
In case the application is not accepted, the school will then inform the applicant on the reasons why.
Payment of tuition fee

- The school sends a copy of the resident permit and the invoice to the applicant.

- The applicant is required to transfer an agreed amount of money.

- Upon receiving the transferred agreed amount of money, the school sends the original resident permit to the applicant.
Issuing pre-college student visa

- The applicant applies for pre-college student visa at the Japanese consular office bringing along necessary documents like own passport, resident permit and school entrance permit.
The applicant is advised to apply for pre-college student visa at the consular office as early as possible as the resident permit expires after 3 months from the date of issue.
Coming to Japan and entering school

- placement test is conducted at the school on any suitable day before the Opening Ceremony.

Scholarships (applicable from April 2010)
3 kinds of scholarships are endowed for students of Kyoto Minsai Japanese Language School.
Scholarships from (MEXT) Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology.
Award period: Award for 1 year
Allowance: 48.000 Yen per month
Number of scholarships: 2 scholarships
Number of scholarships: 2 scholarships per year (in the near future the number of this scholarship might increase)
Applicants: Pre-college students who had studied at least 6 months at Kyoto Minsai Japanese Language School.
Scholarships from the Support Committee of Kyoto Minsai Japanese Language School
Award period: Award for 1 year
Allowance: 30.000 Yen per month
Number of scholarships: 1 scholarship each year (in the near future the number of this scholarship might increase).
Applicants: Pre-college students who had studied at least 6 months at Kyoto Minsai Japanese Language School.
Scholarships from the Support Committee of Kyoto Minsai Japanese Language School
Award period: Award for 6 months
Allowance: 10.000 to 50.000 Yen per month
Number of scholarships: from 1 to 4
Applicants: Pre-college students who have studied at least 6 months at Kyoto Minsai Japanese Language School.
General requirements for applicants
1. School attendance rate at least 95%.
2. Having shown role-model behavior
3. Excellent scores in tests or exams
In selection of benefactors of scholarships, special consideration is paid to students from non-kanji countries
