5月13日と14日に短期生をグループに分けて、京都民際の近くにある建物で蝋纈染めを体験しました。蝋纈染めは模様部分を蝋で防染し染色する伝統的な染色法です。みんなは自分が好きな絵を選んで蝋を使って布に書きました。自分で作った物を持って帰れたから大変喜びました。蝋纈染めが面白くて、学生がいい体験できてよかったです。
On the 13th and 14th of May, we divided the short-term students into groups and escorted them to experience the whole process of roketsu dyeing which is a unique traditional way of cloth dyeing in which wax is used to block dyes in area finely drawn by hand on cloth. Everybody chose their personal favorite amongst various drawings and drew it on cloth by using wax as paint. They were very happy after hearing that everyone could take their own creation home. It was a very informative and interesting experience.
