短期コース校外学習　5月27、28日

今週も短期生が遠足で、一緒に奈良に行きました。奈良は歴史があり、東大寺とかつての平城京でよく知られている都市です。京都から奈良まで車で一時間半ぐらいかかりました。最初に奈良国立博物館へ行きました。そこに平城遷都1300年記念「大遣唐使展」というエキシビションがありました。ミュージアムを見てから奈良を散策して、昼御飯を食べて、バスで平城京に行きました。平城京は、奈良時代の日本の首都です。いわゆる「奈良の都」です。唐の都「長安」や北魏洛陽城等を模倣して建造されたとされ、現在の奈良県奈良市及び大和郡山市近辺に位置していました。奈良に行って、とてもいい一日を過ごしました。

Short-term students extra curricular activities. 27th and 28th of May.

Also this week the short-term students went on an excursion. This time we escorted them to the city of Nara. It's an old and historical city that is mostly famous because of the Todaiji Temple and the Heijō-kyō Palace. It took about 1,5 hour to Nara by car. After arriving we went to the Nara National Museum to see an exhibition named Imperial Envoys to Tang China: Early Japanese Encounters with Continental Culture. Various old artifacts, paintings, scrolls, pots and statues were displayed. Afterwards we strolled around Nara and ate lunch. We took the bus to Heijō-kyō. The Palace site is a listed UNESCO World　Heritage together with other places in the city. It was a very interesting day.

この日は非常に天気が良く、車に乗って、短期生と彦根に行きました。彦根城の近くに車を止めて、お城まで歩きました。思った以上に広くて、とても綺麗な建物でした。そこで色々な建物を見て、記念写真を撮ってから、隣にある玄宮園に行きましたが庭が凄く綺麗でした。小学生がたくさんいて、彼らは特にメキシコから来た学生たちに興味をもったようでした。日本から遠く離れたメキシコの人に会うのは小学生にとって初めてのことだったでしょう。一緒に話したり、写真を取ったりしました。それを楽しんでいる学生たちを見て、私まで嬉しくなりました。最後に彦根の町に行って、ストランでご飯を食べました。京都へ帰る途中に琵琶湖を通りましたが、日本の一番大きい湖が見られて、みんな喜んでいました。

On a wonderful day we took the car and drove the short-term students to Hikone, a town in the Shiga prefecture famous for its old castle. We stopped the car and walked to the castle. It was really beautiful and much bigger than expected. After seeing various buildings and taking a memorial picture we went to the Genkyu-en garden that is situated next to the castle. At the garden we saw a lot of Japanese elementary school students and they seemed especially interested in the Mexican students. It was very satisfying to see the short-term students talking to them and taking pictures with the Japanese elementary school students. Above that the garden was very lovely. Finally we strolled around Hikone town and ate at a family restaurant. On the way back to Kyoto, we drove past Lake Biwa, the biggest lake in Japan and everybody looked very happy seeing it.

 みなさんはかるたの名前の由来をごぞんじですか。ポルトガル語で手紙、トランプなどを意味するcartaに由来するそうです。

　６月２日の文化交流の授業は、このかるたについてがテーマでした。かるたの歴史についてのお話を聞いた後、まず、ひらがな１文字だけ書かれたカードで、取る練習をしました。最後には、ことわざで書かれたかるたを使いました。

　この日は使いませんでしたが、他にも「お化けかるた」や、「お魚かるた」など、いろいろなおもしろいものがあるようです。自分でかるたを作ってみても、おもしろそうですね。

card games

Do you know the orizin of the japanese word karuta? It is said that the Japanese word is originated from the Portuguese word carta which means letter, card games etcetera.On June 2nd, the culture class had carta as theme. After getting a lecture about the history of Japanese carta,the students played a version of the famous Japanese card game. All the hiragana characters were written on a single card and the students had to pick the card with the right character written on it as quick as possible.The student that collected the most cards in the end won. After that cards with proverbs written on it were used to make it a bit more interesting. There are a lot more Japanese versions of the "carta" game like monster and fish cards but we didn't use them today. It seems really interesting if you make your own card deck isn't it? 

　６月１０日の文化交流の授業は狂言の先生、金久倉汲さんをお迎えしました。初めて見る狂言、自分たちで声を出して体験する狂言はとても刺激になりました。学生が先生から口伝えで教えていただきながら演じたのは、「盆山」というお話でした。

　狂言は喜劇のようなもので、このおもしろさはきっと、万国共通のものなのでしょう。

Kyogen play,drama

We welcomed Kanehisa Sokyu, a kyogen teacher on the 10th of June to instruct at our weekly cultural exchange class. The students were very excited to see a kyogen performance for the first time and having the chance to participate in the play themselves. While getting an oral instruction by the teacher, the students performed a play called Bonsan.

 Kyogen looks a lot like comedy. This kind of fun surely exists all over the world doesn't　it?

(I will explain about bonsan in a column.)

　第１４期卒業生のイ　ジンヨンさん。現在龍谷大学の大学院で仏教美術の研究をしています。そのイ　ジンヨンさんが今月８日から１３日まで京都市中京区の画廊で行われた展覧会で通訳を務めていました。

　この展覧会の絵は韓国の水墨淡彩画家、シンテスさんの作品で、韓国の古い伝統家屋のあるアンドンの風光がよく表されていました。イさんはそれぞれ絵の意味なども上手に通訳していました。仏教美術の研究もしているので、鑑賞眼も素晴らしく思えました。

　これからさらに活躍することを願っています。

Update about a graduate student.

Lee Jin Young,14th graduation class student, is researching about buddhistic art at Ryukoku University at the moment. He is working as an interpreter at an gallery's exhibition are made by Shin Tesu, a South Korean painter that uses light colored India-ink.There are Paintings of the natural beauty of Andong, a South Korean town with old, traditional houses. Jin Young has explained very well about the meaning etcetera of every painting. He's researching about buddhistic art so we think it's great that he can determine with his own eyes if it's good or not.

We hope that he continues to develop himself from now on.

6月17、18日の2日に分けて、天橋立へ行ってきました。

ゆっくりと天橋立の松並木を散歩したあと、展望台にのぼり、大自然が作りだした絶景を眺めました。

足の間から逆さまに見ると、本当に天にかかる橋のようですね。

　この日は学校の招待で、学生１７人で民際の卒業生が経営しているトルコ料理のレストランへ食べに行きました。いろいろな料理も食べて、最後にトルコのチャイもいただきました。食べ物がとてもおいしくて、話がたくさんできて、まだ帰りたくないという学生の数が多かったので、レストランで食べた後に１３人でカラオケをしました。日本語と英語とスペイン語とドイツ語の歌を歌って、飲み放題付きで、とても楽しかったです。

 メキシコのみんな、チャンスがあればまた遊びに来てくださいね！

　今週また短期生と課外活動に行って、今回は１２人で京都市内にある体験工房という店で行灯を作る体験をしました。行灯、行燈（あんどん）は日本の典型的な照明器具の一つです。みんなはいろいろな絵が書いてある紙を自由に使って、自分が好きなデザインを作りました。学生は自分の国へ持って帰る行灯を作って、うれしそうでした。

　建物のニ階はワークショップを行う場所として使われていて、一階にはいろいろなおもしろい物が売られているお店があります。学生たちは様々なお土産を買ったので、ワークショップだけではなく、お店も気に入ったようでよかったです。

　この日は文化・交流の授業で、祇園祭と五山送り火のことについて説明しました。祖先が帰ってくるという風習は珍しいのか、学生はとてもびっくりしていました。

　その後は京都についての〇✕問題をしました。「室町時代（今から５００年程前）に京都に約３５０軒の酒屋があった」（＊答えは〇）という問題では先生方も驚いていました。

　history study

The short-and long-term students followed a cultural class about the Gion Festival and the Gozan no Okuribi (5 big fires that are lit on mountains around Kyoto). The student were very surprised by hearing that ancestral spirits come back to earth during the O-bon festibal.

After hearing various interesting stories about the festival in Kyoto, the students participated in a true/false quiz with very difficult questions about various events in Kyoto and some answers even amazed the teachers. For example none of the teachers knew that there were about 350 liquor shops in Kyoto about 350 years ago. The winners of the quiz were rewarded with a price.
